Green Initiative

Our practices have been working hard to introduce greener initiatives, and the results are inspiring! From reducing waste to saving energy, each team is making a real difference to the environment and showing how small changes can have a big impact. Together, we’re helping to build a more sustainable future for our communities.

Here’s a round-up of our recent green achievements:

  • Cedars Medical Group – Leading the way with food waste recycling, using compostable bags collected by Durham County Council and turned into renewable energy and fertiliser.

  • Stanley Medical Group – Cutting down on plastic by halving the number of sample bags used for urine tests.

  • The Haven – Successfully recycling inhalers for over a year, with brilliant uptake from patients.

  • Queens Road Surgery – Expanding recycling to include cardboard, plastics, and now food waste too.

  • Browney House – Saving energy with LED lighting and reducing kettle use by encouraging staff to bring their own flasks.

  • Consett Medical Group – Introducing more recycling bins, adding food waste bins, discussing carpooling, and working with landlords on energy-efficient windows.

  • West Road – Making steady progress on replacing all lighting with long-lasting, energy-saving LEDs.

  • Leadgate – Going big with a brand-new roof fitted with solar panels, providing renewable energy for the surgery.
