What Is a Federation?
What is the Federation?
Derwentside Healthcare Limited is a GP Federation whose shareholders are the 12 GP practices working across the locality known as Derwentside in the North Durham area.
Contracting and commissioning of local patient services began undergoing significant changes in 2013 and the Federation was subsequently formed to secure contracts on behalf of practices, sub-contracting when necessary and/or appropriate to do so. The Board of the Federation is currently made up of 3 Non Clinical Directors and 2 Clincal Directors and the inaugural board meeting was held in July 2015. The role of the Federation is also to provide an additional line of income and security to practices of all sizes across our footprint. The company is ran on a "for profit" basis and the all profits are reinvested in the 12 GP practices in Derwentside.
The Federation has since it's inception ran a Quality and Safety Initiative (QASI) which supports and rewards practices to improve patient and practice outcomes using evidence based interventions to tackle local health needs.
The Federation also provides the following:
Weekend Visiting Frailty Service via the ICB
Extended Hours at Tanfield View Medical Group on a daily basis
Health Checks Contract via Durham County council
Covid Vaccination Clinics at Shotley Bridge Hospital
Research Opportunities
Diabetic Contract via County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust
Education and Events to support our practices
The Federation also holds a contract with Derwentside Primary Care Network to deliver the PCN agenda.
